About Myself

Name: Priscilla Chang Yun

Age: 20 years old

Gender: Female

Nationality: Malaysian

Hello ! Here is a little introduction about myself.

My parents gave me the name "Priscilla" which is taken from the Holy Bible in the book of Romans, chapter 16.

"3 Greet Priscilla and Aquila, my co-workers in Christ Jesus."

(Romans 16:3)

The name "Priscilla" comes from an ancient Roman name "Prisca" which symbolizes "ancient beauty and honour". It also brings the meaning of "the worthy and venerable one".

As for my chinese name 张韵, the first word is my family name Chang. The second word is "Yun" which symbolizes "music and melody".

Since music plays a huge role in my life, it adds much more value to my chinese name. I like the meanings behind my name given to me by my parents. It reminds me to always carry myself well, and to honour those around me.

I was born in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. But I grew up in Kuala Lumpur.

My father travelled a lot when I was little, so I spent my early years of childhood in Nottingham, England. Surprisingly, those memories of England are still vivid, and I think those were the highlight of my childhood.

We returned to Malaysia when I was 5 years old, and settled down in Kuala Lumpur where I received my primary, secondary and tertiary education.

My first language was English, but I began to learn my mother tongue (Mandarin) when I started primary education in SJK (C) Jalan Davidson. I also speak Bahasa Melayu and Hokkien, which I use to communicate with my extended family.

My Goals and Objectives:

Why MBBS?

This is actually a very private matter to me, I was born a miracle baby as complications began to arise when I was born. I had my first surgery when I was 3 months old, and second one when I was 8 months old. It wasn't an easy process for my parents and I, but we made it through. I simply believe that it is God's blessings that pulled us through the times of hardship, and even the challenges now are blessings in disguise.

Hence, I want to reach out to children who share the same medical condition as me. The condition is known as clef lip and palate, although it is quiet common people are still unaware and afraid of it. Since I've been through it, and also living with my condition everyday, I understand the challenges clef lip- children face while growing up.

That is why I choose to take MBBS, I want to help create awareness for public health, I want to help people to receive the correct treatment, I want to strive to find a cure of diseases. As for children born with clef lips I want to give them the opportunity to smile again.

Hence my title of my portfolio "Blood, Sweat and Smiles".

I honour and love my parents the most. They are my first teachers, provider and pillars of strength.

I believe that everyone deserves a second chance.

I believe in the power of prayer.

My vision in life is to be a blessing to others. I hope that one day, after graduating from Med School I will be able to join my church's mission team, and to serve, minister and heal the sick.
