Hubungan Etnik
Hubungan Etnik or Ethnic Relationships is one of the compulsory MPU subjects provided by the government.
The subject covers issues and topics that are not usually discussed in the classroom. For example, religion, cultures, politics and social issues in Malaysia. We were taught by Encik Serit, who is nice and very passionate about unity among students. I believe that this subject, although not our core subject has brought an impact to our lives. It also gives us an opportunity to know each other's culture and religion better, promoting unity and better friendship.

Reflection:
Hubungan Etnik was the subject that gave me a good surprise. Personally, I did npt expect much and did not plan to put much effort in this subject. However, after the first few lessons in the beginning of the first semester, my perspective was entirely changed. I am grateful to have Encik Serit as our Hubungan Etnik lecturer, as he has made this subject easy to understand and enjoyable at the same time. I have learnt so much from this subject.
One of the major assignments that we did was the Hubungan Etnik Warna-warni Exhibition. My course mates and I formed a group of eight, they are Hazim, E-Yang, Edric, Mark, Beverly, WenYun, Sophis and I. We had to choose an ethnic group to research on, and present it during the exhibition. We spent a few weeks to spread out the work, and started making videos, reports, posters and the decorations for the soft board during the exhibition.
We arrived early that day to set up our stalls with batik cloth, Malaysian herbs and spices, traditional woven baskets, posters and balloons. Our chosen topic was on the Javanese race from Indonesia. We chose this topic because it is an interesting ethnic group, and we are intrigued by the richness of the Javanese culture. The Javanese people travelled to Malaysia back then during the Malacca Civilisation. They ended up settling down in Malaysia and had a huge impact on the Malay community.
Besides that, I was in charge of preparing the Javanese delicacies. We served freshly fried tempeh with black sambal. It was a great hit, and almost everybody that stopped by our stalls enjoyed the food and explanation given by our members. The whole atmosphere was warm and very cheerful.
Personally, I enjoyed this subject very much. I have learnt things that are out of my textbooks; nevertheless I learn how to work with my course mates. This has truly been a great experience and I look forward to more activites.
