A MEDICAL JOURNEY
Problem Based Learning (PBL)
Problem based learning (PBL) is introduced in semester 2. It is a 1-2 hour session. Students are divided into four groups, each group consisting about 10-11 people. In our respective groups, we are lead my a lecturer.
PBL sessions gives us the opportunity to discuss medical cases. Each week we are given a trigger, where we have to list down the chief complaints, signs and symptoms of the patient presenting the compliant. Throughout the discussion, we also list down the learning issues that has to be further discovered and dealt more in dept. It is a very interactive session, where all students are given a chance to present their findings and ideas, contributing to the correct diagnosis.
I enjoy PBL sessions, it is a very effective way of learning. Not only is it more fun, we are allowed to voice out our opinions, and the goal is not to figure out the treatment but to understand the patient's case thoroughly.
