Lippincott's Pharmacology Textbook 5th Edition

Basic and Clinical Pharmacology

Reflection:
Pharmacology has to be learnt side-by-side with pathology. This is because students can relate the disease and the appropriate treatment and management that should be given to the patient with that condition.
I enjoy Dr Rao and Dr Ameya's classes as they always make it simple and easy to understand. Although pharmacology requires a lot of memorising of the drug and its characteristics, I find it easier to remember when compared to other subjects. With the revision classes given by lecturers, and also a lot of miond-mapping and recalling, I am able to remember the few important drugs for treatment.
I find it very useful to learn pharmacology in my first year of MBBS, it provides a good foundation for clnical phase in year 3,4,5. I can also apply it in my daily lives, for example I can advise my dad on the lipid-lowerinf medication he is takinf for high cholesterol. Nevertheless, I know what to avoid and what to expect when a certain drug is administered. Hence, I enjoy pharmacology very much in my second semester.
Pharmacology
Pharmacology is covered in Haematology Immunology and Cardiovascular system blocks.
Pharmacology in H&I block covers the pharmacokinectics, mechanism of action, pharmacodynamics of blood drugs. These drugs are used to treat diseases of the immune system and blood. For example, treatment of anemia, DIC etc.
In CVS block, the drugs are used to treat heart diseases and prevention of further complications that might arise with the progression of the disease. For example, drugs for heart failure, heart attacks, high cholesterol etc.
